This composition combines my favorite mediums- gourds and wool fiber.  The gourd itself is 13" in diameter and is 10 1/4" tall.  It is carved on the black section to give it a wonderful texture and is painted with acrylic inks.  The finished gourd called "Turquoise and Black" is finished with a leather trim around the rim and has silver and turquiose beads.  The kitten, eager to see what treasure may lay hidden inside,  is made by felting wool with a barbed needle over an aluminum armature.  All features are sculpted from wool with the exception of the horsehair whiskers.  The kitten can be posed in different positions and is 15" from its outstretched front paws to the tip of its tail.
